| Bio: José L. Cruz-Rivera received the BSEE degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez in 1991 and the MS and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992 and 1996, respectively. His research interests include high-performance computer architectures, high-performance microprocessor-based systems, optoelectronic technologies, parallel algorithm characterization, and image processing applications. Other professional interests include the development of teacher training programs for K-12 math and science education, as well as the use of cooperative learning methods for undergraduate engineering instruction. Dr. Cruz-Rivera has received the national Patricia Roberts-Harris Doctoral Fellowship and is a Senior Member of the IEEE and member of the Optical Society of America, the Sigma Xi research society, and the American Society for Engineering Education. He has received the following awards: 1997 National Science Foundation Career Award, 1999 Frontiers in Education New faculty Fellow, and the 1999 Electrical and Computer Engineering Distinguished Professor Award. In 2001, Dr. Cruz-Rivera was given an early promotion to the rank of Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez due to exceptional merit. Dr. Cruz-Rivera is currently the Regional Director of the National Future Scientists and Engineers of America Program in Puerto Rico. He has served as Coordinator of the Pre-College Engineering Program at UPRM, Associate Director of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, and Dean of Academic Affairs. |
