Note: For our simulations we use Matlab. Matlab only works with discrete signals, not continuous signals, so the simulation is not exact. Some of the things we must do in the simulation are because we are using discrete signals, or samples of continuous signals, and why they are done will not be obvious until you take a class in digital signal processing.

Computer Homework 4

In this homework you will use QAM and single sideband modulation. First, you will take two signals and modulate them using QAM, then modulate one of them using single sideband suppressed carrier modulation.

1. QAM

Modulate the two signals given using QAM. Use a carrier frequency of 15kHz. Show the original and modulated signals in time and in frequency.

Demodulate the signals, and listen to the results.

2. SSB

Modulate one of the signals using SSB modulation. Use a carrier frequency of 15kHz.

Since we have only made lowpass filters, use the lower sidebands for the modulation. Show the original and modulated signal in time and in frequency.

Demodulate the signal and listen to the results.
