Work
Fe Baha'i .
I am a member of
the Baha'i
Faith. The Baha'i Faith is religion. The Baha'i Faith is religion? Must be
a typo, maybe the Baha'i Faith is a religion. Well, no typo, but let me
explain what I mean. One of the central teachings of the Faith is that God is
one. We believe that there is only one God who created us all. The implication
of this is that when a person prays to their Creator they are praying to the
same God. No matter whether they are brown, black, yellow or white, woman or
man, rich or poor, it does not even matter what religion a person believes in,
it does not change the fact that we all have the same Creator. The Baha'i
Faith also teaches that humanity has passed through different stages in its
long process of growth, and has been in need of education appropriate to its
level of development. We believe that God has sent down perfect Teachers,
Manifestations of Himself, to teach us what we needed at different times of
our development. We believe that Moses, Zoroaster, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus,
Muhammad, the Bab, and now Baha'u'llah are Manifestations that have come with
the the teachings from God appropriate for the age in which they lived. In
this sense, what have been come to be known as different religions, can be
seen as one. I don't intend this to be a study of comparative religion, so
instead of comparing how these religions are practiced today, let us focus on
the teachings of the Manifestation. Since the age in which these
Manifestations came was not the same, some of the teachings are different. If
we divide the teaching into social and spiritual, we see that the spiritual
teachings are the same. It is love and harmony, not hate and prejudice that is
promoted by the teachings of these Manifestations. This oneness of religion is
what I meant when writing the Baha'i Faith is religion. This is not to say
that there is nothing new in the teachings of Baha'u'llah. In fact, this being
one of the most turbulent times in the history of humanity, there is an
incredible wealth of teachings on the solution to the problems we are facing
in the writings of the Faith. Well, what are they? Unfortunately a faithful
introduction is beyond the scope of this page; for more info click on the
links. However, for a short intro here are some words of Baha'u'llah, founder
of the Baha'i Faith. The utterance of God is a lamp, whose light are
these words: Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch. Deal
ye one with another with the utmost love and harmony, with friendliness and
fellowship. He Who is the Day-Star of Truth beareth Me witness! So powerful is
the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth. The One true God,
He Who knoweth all things, Himself testifieth to the truth of these words.
Exert yourselves that ye may attain this transcendent and most sublime
station, the station that can insure the protection and security of all
mankind. This goal excelleth every other goal, and this aspiration is the
monarch of all aspirations.
