TERMS & CONDITIOINS

By entering the Challenge you are fully accepting the terms, conditions and disclaimers contained in this notice.  The Terms and Conditions must be accepted before submitting an application.  Failure to follow any of the rules or guidelines in this notice will result in the participant’s application being disqualified.


DESCRIPTION: The Android Development Challenge by the IEEE Computer Society UPRM Chapter has as its main goals to:

  1. 1.Tap into a previously untouched area in the University.

  2. 2.Expose a new generation of developers’ to an emerging technology and the major role that mobile platforms are taking.

  3. 3.Develop entrepreneur mobile application developers.

  4. 4.Create new alliances with pioneer companies in this field.

  5. 5.Promote and develop creativity as well critical thinking skills in our members.



SPONSOR: The Challenge is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society UPRM Chapter, Google Inc. ("Google"), a corporation with principal place of business at 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA, 94043, USA, and Lockheed Martin (“Lockheed Martin”), a company with headquarters at Bethesda, Maryland, USA.


ELIGIBILITY:

This competition is open only to full time students at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus.


TEAM RULES:

Students will form teams of 1 to 3 students in which only one of the students may be a graduate student.  Once a team has been registered, no participants can be added or removed from the team.  Each individual participant must follow the terms and conditions, if one member gets disqualified, the full team gets disqualified.


USE OF DATA:

Personal data which you provide when you enter this competition will be kept private and will not be used for any other purpose that is not for the challenge. Any information given with the intent to deceive or be false will automatically disqualify the participant.


TIMELINE:

  1. 1st Stage - Registration & Proposals:

    1. February 7 to Feb 21, 2011

  2. 2nd Stage - Screening & Approval:

    1. February 22 to Feb 28, 2011

    2. The judges will receive every proposal and will determine if fall in with the ADC guidelines.

  3. 3rd Stage - Development:

    1. Developers will have from March 1 to April 22, 2011 for development.

  4. 4th Stage - Evaluation:

    1. April 25, 2011 to April 29, 2011

  5. Award Ceremony

    1. May 4, 2011


SELECTION OF WINNERS:

The winner will be determined by a panel of judges that are comprised of UPRM professors and professional related to the area. For each of the 4 categorize the judges will recognize the top three applications and then the winners of each category will go to a final round of an overall award.  The judges will test and evaluate the applications. Based on their evaluation a score will be given and the highest scores are the ones rewarded.  There will be an award ceremony on May 4, 2011 where the winners will be prized.


PRIZE:


INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS:  The Participants retain ownership of all intellectual and industrial property rights regarding their applications before and after the challenge, under the premise that the participants are the sole creators of the app.  Copyright or Patent infringement and the submitting of work not created by the team will not be tolerated and result and immediate disqualification.   During the contest the participants must agree upon their source code being examined by the judges if necessary. By submitting an application to the challenge you agree upon these rules.
