  Dr. Orama received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico in 1992. During his senior year he worked as inspector of electrical distribution systems for the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority. In January 1993 he started graduate studies at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Instutite where he received his Master of Engineering Degree in 1994. In August of 1994 he became a GEM Fellow to continue doctoral studies at Rensselaer. He received his Doctoral Degree in October of 1997 after presenting his Thesis titled "Numerical Modeling of High Voltage Circuit Breaker Arcs And Their Interaction With The Power System" . Dr. Orama joined the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in January, 1998. He does research in the areas of electrical discharges, electrical transients and teaches general engineering and electric power engineering courses. He also, practices as a Professional Engineer in Puerto Rico.

• Research Interests: Electrical discharges in vacuum and gases, vacuum switching technology, fields stress analysis in electric power devices, power systems transients, alternative energy sources, distributed generation, power systems protection.

• Industry of Vacuum Interrupters: a comprehensive course of 10 to 12 hours on vacuum interrupters technology.
• Interruption Process in Vacuum Switches: a short course of approximately 4 hours on vacuum interrupter science.
• Low Voltage System Grounding: a short course of approximately 2 hours on the importance of grounding for low voltage systems.
• Disign of Lightning Protection for Buildings: a short course of approximately 2 hours on design.
• Lightning: a short course of approximately 2 hours the science of lightning and current issues.
