1.4 Abstract for NOAA-CREST/NASA-EPSCOR Symposium

These is the abstract submitted for this Symposium:

AN EXPERT DATABASE SYSTEM FOR ATMOSPHERIC STUDIES IN PUERTO RICO by
Miguel Cortés

An approach based on concepts and techniques from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Expert Systems (ES) is proposed for Remote Sensing data needed by atmospheric modelers in the area of coastal and environmental assessment. The ES together with a database and an image-processing engine form a system. The intelligence of the system consists of a knowledge base, which defines the set of rules for satellite data interpretations. The Inference Engine (IE) will be implemented with LPA-Prolog++ language, that combine the best of AI and Object Oriented Programming (OOPS). The Knowledge acquisition facility includes, a non-trivial process of identifying valid, novel, potentially useful, and understandable patterns in data. The information retrieval and explanation facilities will be implemented using a conbination of standard query language (SQL) through the internet with C# language. This system will be used for atmospheric studies by querying information about several parameters to obtain more reliable estimates for validation of models and algorithms.

Miguel:

Your abstract is OK. You can submit it electronically accessing the
following web site: http:/www.ece.uprm.edu/cmg (cmg = climate modeling
group).

Vidya:

The last sentence of your husband's students' abstract should read as
follows: examples will be presented rather than "examples presented"
Please submit this also electronically using the same web site and
browser.
