The College of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1959 by the union of the School of Sciences organized in 1943 and the Division of General Studies. The Department of Nursing was the last department to be incorporated to the college. Other departments withing the college are: Biology, Chemistry, Marine Science, Hispanic Studies, English, Economics, Geology, Humanities, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics and Social Sciences.
