Project: Follow-Me Cart

Description:

The Follow-Me Cart, as its name suggests, is an item-carriage cart intended to follow its owner. It will be able to avoid stationary obstacles and will incorporate a security alarm to take measures against theft. The prototype will include a RC car with infrared proximity sensors located in front and at the sides of the car. An ultrasonic transmitter will be used by the cart's owner and a receiver will be placed on the car for unique identification. A PIC micro-controller will control the RC car's motors and movements to manage directional decisions with information sent by the sensors.

Description:

Locali is an hyperlocal content provider and visual news means designed to meet the awareness needs of a community. Locali serves as a way for members to write, read, comment and rate local articles via a web-based system. It also allows the view of news headers at strategically placed displays. For prototype concerns, these devices will use WiFi technology to simulate GPS, so that everyday users out on a walk or on the bus may be able to get a glimpse of the local events around them.

Project: CPR Electronic Assistant Mannequin (CPRETAM)

Description:

We will create a tool to facilitate the job of the instructors by electronically monitoring students practicing Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a training mannequin. Our product will consist of a mannequin that will be monitored using different sensors and a software application which will retrieve and process the information in order to provide proper training and support the instructor. The mannequin will simulate a person who needs CPR and will respond to the steps if they were applied according to the rules of the CPR manual or instructor. The trainer will use software installed in a normal computer to control the mannequin’s actions and obtain results of his or her students in real time, with the ability to save the data or retrieve previous session data from a database.

Project: Monitor Event Manager

Description:

Good business relies on good communication, this being accurate and up to the minute. Big institutions, like universities, schools and activity centers, which require a lot of management and organization are often faced with the exact opposite. Places that manage a lot of employees and clients, which are under constant interaction, and many activities that run at the same time usually lack the ability of maintaining order, and keeping people up to date with the activities going on while preserving their peace of mind and providing a stress free environment. This is particularly true when coordinating large events, such as conventions, training seminars and the like. Unexpected small changes can escalate quickly and create havoc among the uninformed. To solve these problems and provide an organized, neat and well controlled surrounding, Abridge technologies now offers the Monitor Event Manager (MEM), a sleek, wireless LCD message display system that provides immediate information in easy to locate spots of the event facility, where all and any clients can access all the minor details that the host wants to rely. The proposed system can handle detailed and well organized lists of current and future events which can be quickly updated through Wi-Fi using a web application. It will satisfy its users with all the present and future activities' location and scheduled time along with descriptions of these and any last minute change that might have happened. Administrators will be able to manage this device through Wi-Fi using a web application maintaining its users updated with everything that is going on in real time. The MEM system is attractive, affordable, requiring a simple installation and unbelievably simple in its application.

Project: DayCare Helper(DCH)

Description:

The Daycare Helper (DCH) system is designed to help Daycares in avoiding the entrance of unauthorized people inside the facility by using face recognition algorithms in a photo taken real-time with a previously stored photo. The system will also record the children assistance automatically with the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology; this will avoid the excessive use of paper and will reduce the use of file storage while saving time to the Daycare staff. Finally, the children's personal record will be kept electronically as well as the facility's emergency contacts.

Music-In-Control

Description:

Today the personal computer can be an integrated home entertainment system. The problem that arises from using the PC as an integrated home entertainment system is the audio amplification and remote access limitations. To solve this problem the Music-In-Control system is proposed. It consists of a LCD remote interface allowing the user to navigate the Media Player Library and control the wireless speaker system. This will enable the user to control and select a desired song without being in front of the computer. This Add-In will expand the capabilities of the computer, and transform it into an integrated entertainment system.
