Whitestone

The Academic Senate of the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez Campus is the forum in which the academic community meets for the discussion of the institution's issues and the establishment of academic norms in a framework of order and respect. Every meeting is presided by the sitting Chancellor with the assistance of a secretary, who has the task of keeping record of all the events that occur during each session. Currently, the Senate uses a combination of paper-based and technological resources in their operations. However, some of the manual systems used, such as hand-based polling, either cannot be used for all the types of votes or generate a time-consuming process. On the other hand, the technological resources currently used, such as the audience response system (clicker), do not satisfy the needs of the Senate due to the extensive and time-consuming configurations needed in order to make them work. There is also a need to address the decaying state of the current sound system and the danger that the exposed wiring represents to everyone in the meeting. Thus, Whitestone proposes a polling web application prototype which facilitates the customization of a voting formulation, quorum monitoring, and validates electoral credentials with their voting privileges to allow real-time decision results.  It also incorporates the participants’ speech recordings (through a local computer microphone) and streaming to the meeting room's audio system. This product offers administrative staff simplification and autonomy in the technical planning of such voting sessions or discussion forums and is expected to improve the user experience with a user-friendly, centralized, time-efficient, and secure tool.

Elastic Wave Acquisition System (EWAS)

The Elastic Wave Acquisition System is a high resolution Data Acquisition System designed for use in Non-Destructive Testing applications. The system consists of a series of individual modules called Data Acquisition Modules (DAM), that provide an interface to the sensor channels. These DAM's are all connected to a main unit which coordinates the transfer of data between them and handles the storage and processing operations of the measured data. Additionally, a mobile application is used for user interaction in which the desired configuration parameters to be used during each experiment can be defined. The mobile application also has the functionality of providing basic signal processing operations on the acquired data.
