Dr. Luis O. Jimenez received the BSEE from University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, in 1989. He received his MSEE from University of Maryland at College Park in 1991 and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1996. Currently he is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. He is the Director of the Laboratory for Applied Remote Sensing and Image Processing (LARSIP). This is the largest laboratory on Campus with a research budget of $6,000,000. Dr. Jimenez is the PI of three research projects. Two of the projects are funded by federal agencies, the Topographic Engineering Center and the DoD. The other project is funded by a local company named Biometrics Imagineering. He is CoPI of two projects. One is a research project funded by NASA’s grant entitled Advance Automated Image Analysis of the Tropical Center for Earth and Space Studies. The other project were he is CoPI is an educational program funded by NASA’s mission to Planet Earth Program entitled Partnership for Spatial and Computational Research. In two years he has obtained an amount of around $1,000,000 in projects were he is a PI and $2,500,000 in projects were he is CoPI. His research interest include Pattern Recognition, Remote Sensing, Feature Extraction, Artificial Intelligence, and Image Processing.

Dr. Jimenez is an associate member of the IEEE. He is also member of the Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.
