Interdisciplinary Research and Training Program in Ethics for Business Science and Engineering in the Puerto Rican Context This project in practical and professional ethics identified cases and issues that arise from BSE (business, science and engineering) practice in Puerto Rico.
It helped the investigators develope new research projects which examine how cultural issues influence the understanding of ethical
principles and the formulation of ethical problems in Puerto Rico. Furthermore, BSE faculty at UPRM (and other campuses on the island) were aided in integrating ethics into their classes and curricula. For example, the UPRM College of Engineering has used the project's results
in their ABET 2000 reaccreditation efforts; they have benefited from the integration strategies developed and the faculty training provided. Through this project we were able to bring experts to UPRM (Professors
Vivian Weil, Michael Rabins, Michael Pritchard, and Deborah Johnson) to advise on ABET requirements. By means of team building workshops, the project retreat helped
develope a core of twenty-three faculty members at UPRM and UIPR-Inter Metro to integrate ethics into BSE teaching and practice in Puerto Rico.
Retreat participants also helped universities in South America to integrate ethics into their BSE curricula. For further information, questions or comments send an e-mail to:
