A little bit about me...
I graduated from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in 1996 with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering. I specialized in Communications, with plenty of classes in Digital Signal Processing. After graduation, I went to work with Motorola, in Schaumburg, Illinois. I first worked as a Software Engineer for Astro Digital Radios. I was programming the data application used in police cars. Then, I went to graduate school at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. I got a Master in Science in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Wireless Communications, back in 1998. After, graduation I worked as a Systems Engineer for Motorola’s newly developed iDEN system. I had customers from all over the world, and had lots of fun traveling! A few years after that my family moved to New Jersey.
In New Jersey, I worked as a Current Engineer (the term does not refer to actual current V/R, but to time!) at Lucent Technologies. I worked in a group that was in charge of figuring out the problems with the “current” CDMA release. The work was very interesting...I felt more like a doctor diagnosing a problem than an engineer. After, that fun job I took some time off. For a few years, I spent the days taking care of my eldest two children, Angélica María and Juan Emilio.
In 2003, I had the opportunity to teach several electrical engineering courses...and fell back in love with teaching. With the help of UPRM, the ECE department and several grants and fellowships, I was able to start my doctoral degree in the Fall of 2004. I defended my dissertation in December 2009. The title of my dissertation was “An Approach to Using Cognition in Wireless Networks”. In Fall 2009, I started teaching at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. I have taught a good variety of courses, mainly in the Communications and Signal Processing Area.
Currently, I am teaching and getting a research program established. If you are interested in cognitive radio networks research, send me email and we can establish collaborations. You can also visit my research group page iWiNC. Or if you would like to learn more about the subject check some of the publications. Looking forward to reading from you!
