The
CoHemis Consortium
*
In
1992 CoHemis began to form a network of institutions, called "CoHemis
Consortium". This is a group of institutions which are committed to collaborate
to carry out the mission of enhancing the science and technology capabilities
of the Americas and fostering the integration of its scientific community
and its effectiveness in advancing sustainable development.
The Consortium
is based on a set of bilateral agreements of each member with UPRM
to facilitate exchanges of faculty and students, assistantships, participation
in hemispheric activities, joint research, and sharing research facilities.
Each member
has an officially designated person to respond
to queries from other consortium members.
This active
network constitutes a comprehensive, unique pool of resources for North-South
collaborations in science and technology. It is still adding new members
and aims to include at least one institution in each country of the Americas.
It is one of the many things that makes Puerto Rico, a part of Latin America
within the US political and economic system, the bridge of the Americas.
