Association core purpose

The Student Branch of the Computer Alliance of Hispanics Serving Institutions (CAHSI) at University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus (CAHSI-UPRM) shares the course purpose of CAHSI which is creating an unified voice in an effort to consolidate the strenghts, resources, and concerns of CAHSI institutions that are committed to increase the number of Hispanics who pursue and compplete baccalaureate and advanced degrees in computation areas. The core purpose provides the fundamental reason for the Alliance's existence while guiding and inspiring the organization. CAHSI is an academic oriented club based on the Computer Sciences and related areas that is open to all students at UPRM.

Goals

Goals of the club include the following:

  • To increase the number of Hispanic students who enter the computing workforce with advanced degrees.
  • To support the retention and advancement of Hispanics in engineering and sciences.
  • To develop and sustain competitive academic and research programs at UPRM.
  • To help counsel students, providing a place where they can bring any academic problems and have them addressed confidentially and respectfully.
  • To help students thrive in the UPRM academic, social, and cultural environments, as they develop life skills and learning skills for personal and professional growth.

CAHSI has been developing activities not only focused on improving students' skills through technical workshops, but also activities that strengthen fellowship, inclusion, and teamwork. In addition, entertainment and integration activities have also been developed. Some of the activities carried out are:
