The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering. The Electrical Engineering program has five concentration areas: namely, Control Systems, Communications/Digital Signal Processing, Electronics, RF and Remote Sensing, and Power Systems. The Computer Engineering program has five tracks of specialization: Computing Systems, Cyber-physical Systems & Internet of Things, Cyber-security and Networking, Embedded Systems, and Multimedia and Digital Signal Processing.
Both undergraduate programs are offered in a broad breadth curriculum through a five-year program. Both are fully accredited by the ABET. Our Electrical Engineering program was created in 1928, and has been accredited since 1960. The Computer Engineering program started in 1980, and has been accredited since 1994.
Currently, we also offer the Masters in Sciences in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
In addition, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a Ph.D. degree since 2016 with emphasis in Power Engineering, Signals and Systems, RF Systems and Microwave Remote Sensing, and Electronics. Our research facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including 23 laboratories, groups and centers, more than 40 graduate-level courses, 36 faculty members, about 1,206 undergraduate students and near 61 graduated students. It has partaken in several NSF Engineering Research Centers, and our research faculty has received several NSF CAREER Awards as well as national and international recognition. The ECE Department is committed to provide a balanced education to their students including academics, research, and community service.
