Student Associations

The following are some of the Student Associations in our Department.

IEEE Computer Society

The IEEE Computer Society’s mission is to be the leading organization in the areas of computing and informatics. Our goal is to help our students explore areas not offered in our university’s curriculum.

IEEE Control Systems Society

The IEEE Control System Society (CSS) was founded in 1954 as a scientific, engineering and professional organization dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice of systems and control in engineering. Today, the Society has more than 10,000 members around the world. The CSS-UPRM chapter was constituted in 1999, rapidly becoming one of the most active technical societies on campus.

IEEE Power and Energy Society

PES is the leading provider of scientific information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society and the preferred professional development source for our members.

IEEE Circuits and Systems Society

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Circuits and System Society (IEEE- CAS) has taken part in the development of students in the areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The IEEE Circuits and System Society student branch at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus pursues the growth and improvement of students that seek to study in the area of Circuits. Our organization does not only hope to do our best for the future electrical engineers, but we have also sought out a bigger challenge and provide the same amount of help to our students that follow the path of Computer Engineering and other engineers. We will strive in seeking new candidates and providing them with the help required to prepare them for their future tasks as engineers and to search for new talent throughout the community. Website

IEEE Robotics and Automation Society

The Robotics & Automation Society University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus Chapter (RAS UPRM) is a society focused on the student research and development on the area of robotics.

IEEE Electromagnetic Council Society

emc ieeeOur Objective is to be the first to foster applications in electromagnetics in the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. To make applications in Applied Electromagnetics known to the student community and increase the interest in students for the benefit of their development and the development of the ECE department. There is a very low number of students in this area of emphasis which the society wants to increase and make technical and educational resources more available.
To provide support in the EE department for courses closed by lack of demand from students.

This will all be achieved by applying knowledge and practical techniques provided by EMC, which is to be a joint society focused on 3 current IEEE societies. These societies are: Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, Antenna & Propagation Society, and Microwave Technologies & Techniques Society. All the work will be done with the collaboration of professors talented in these three concentrations that form part of the current Applied Electromagnetic teachings in the university.

HackPR

HackPR is a student organization and our mission is to organize Hackathons and other technical activities for students and tech community in general. Website

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)

Our Mission is to create a converging learning environment where we offer challenging experiences that enrich the technical and professional skills of our members. At the same time, we want to provide a service of excellence focused on aiding the curricular and extracurricular necessities of our members that lead to a gratifying and rewarding career path. Website
