Graduates from our program should demonstrate the following outcomes:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
Sampling Instructions for SO Assessment
Student outcome (SO) assessment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is cycle-based per semester. It takes 3 semesters to complete a cycle. The professor/instructor should be aware of the SO sampled in the particular semester and verify the course syllabi if it applies to their courses. If they should sample that semester, the professors/instructor identify examination instruments aligned with the SOs and their performance indicators (approved rubrics). By the end of the semester, rubrics must be filled and samples turned in.
An extremely important issue is related to confidentiality. Only the first 5 students documented samples are required to be turned in with names erased or covered and labeled as Student 1 through 5. Please contact the accreditation staff in the Department to upload your digitalized sample and/or if you have any questions.
The schedule for sampling is the following:
- SPRING 2025 – outcomes 2, 3, 4
- FALL 2024 – outcomes 1, 5
- SPRING 2024 – outcomes 6, 7
- FALL 2023 – outcomes 2, 3, 4
- SPRING 2023 – outcomes 1,5
- FALL 2022 – outcomes 6,7
- SPRING 2022 – outcomes 2, 3,4
- FALL 2021- outcomes 1, 5
- SPRING 2021- outcomes 6, 7
